New 100,000m Challenge

Posted by Concept2 News on the 27th of August 2003

The current world record for the 100,000m team event stands at 4:17:52, set by a team from Royce's Gym in Wigan back in May 2002. After an offer by the organisers of the World IRC, Royce has decided to get another team together to try and break that record at the 2004 World IRC in Boston. Furthermore, he's asking for help from Indoor Rowing News readers to do so. Over to Royce:What I intend to do is to put a team together consisting of seven of the original members if they are available to do it. I have already spoken to six of them and they seem very keen. Obviously we would hope to go over there with a very strong team; I honestly believe that seven of our original team are as strong as you could possibly get, pulling splits of 1:10. I do not want to go over there with any weak links at all, we have to win. To be sure of winning we have got to have ten men capable of pulling 1:10s all the time. I am quite sure that there are three men out there that are quite capable of pulling 1:10. If you think you are up to the task and would like to contact me, give me a ring on 01942 321 933. Alternatively, we will be at the British IRC, so come over and have a chat. This is a one-off opportunity to be part of a great spectacle, which I am sure will be the last time we will do this. The seven men are at the moment in the team are: John Ashworth 6' 8 - 22 Stone Paul Reese - 6' 7 - 17 Stone Alex Bennet - 6' 4 - 18 Stone Chris Brett 6' 3 - 15 Stone Steve Rowbotham - 6' 4 - 17 Stone Simon Walmsley 6' 3 - 17 Stone Gary Scott - 6' 4 - 17 Stone VACANT VACANT VACANTIf you are interested, I am sure it will be a wonderful trip and an exciting occasion that will stay in your memory forever.
